“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
What does it mean to Be Self Now?
To Be Self Now, is to truly be yourself, free from the influence of your ego or external pressures, it’s to embody your authentic self in all its strength. This requires embracing your imperfections and vulnerabilities with courage. Being authentic is believing knowing you are worthy, you are enough just as you are.
I've found that embracing who we truly are, practicing authenticity, even in tough times or moments of overwhelming joy, brings more grace, gratitude, and happiness into our lives.
To Be Self Now doesn't have to be complicated. It's asking ourselves the questions “Who am I?” “What does it mean to be my original self?” “Who do I want to become?” and “What do I need to do to fill in this gap?”
Embarking on the journey of self-discovery involves engaging in reflective practices such as answering thought-provoking questions, journaling about experiences, visualizing an ideal life, practicing mindfulness, and setting goals aligned with personal values and passions. By delving into these activities, you can uncover patterns, identify sources of joy, and gain clarity on your aspirations. This process encourages a deeper understanding of one's authentic self, fostering personal growth and guiding individuals towards a life that aligns with their values and passions.
Discovering and Cultivating Your Personal Strengths and Weaknesses
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” – Aristotle
When we talk about personal 'strengths and weaknesses,' it goes beyond a mere acknowledgment of abilities and shortcomings; it's deeply tied to our personal power. Personal strengths encompass a diverse array of positive attributes, from skills and talents to knowledge and personality traits. Identifying and nurturing these strengths not only enhances success but also contributes to overall fulfillment and well-being.
On the flip side, weaknesses are traits or skills that may be less developed or considered negative. These can include blind spots, underdeveloped skills, or problematic behaviors. Recognizing weaknesses isn't a declaration of inadequacy; instead, it's an opportunity for self-awareness and potential areas for growth.
Being aware of your strengths and weaknesses is a cornerstone of personal empowerment. It equips you to leverage your abilities, make informed decisions, and set achievable goals. Embracing your strengths fosters confidence, while acknowledging weaknesses provides a roadmap for targeted improvement. This awareness not only enhances your sense of control but also builds resilience in the face of challenges, elevating your efficacy in both personal and professional pursuits.
In addition to building and recognizing your strengths and weaknesses, it's equally important to challenge our limiting beliefs—an essential step in unlocking our true potential and fostering a life of purpose and fulfillment.
Challenging Limiting Beliefs
“There is one grand lie - that we are limited. The only limits we have are the limits we believe.” — Wayne Dyer
Challenging and overcoming limiting beliefs is an important step for unlocking personal power and living a fulfilling life. Limiting beliefs, often shaped by society or past experiences, can hold us back. By questioning and breaking these barriers, we free ourselves from self-imposed limitations. This process involves examining our thoughts, questioning old beliefs, and adopting a mindset that sees possibilities rather than constraints. As these mental barriers fade, we gain a stronger sense of independence, resilience, and a greater ability to face life's challenges with confidence and purpose
Example:
Imagine a person who has always believed they're not good at public speaking. This limiting belief has caused them to avoid opportunities that involve presenting in front of others. One day, they find themselves in a situation where they need to give an impromptu presentation at work.
Feeling the familiar pang of anxiety, they decide to challenge their belief. Instead of succumbing to self-doubt, they pause to question the basis of their assumption. They reflect on instances where they effectively communicated ideas, even in informal settings.
Encouraged by these reflections, they decide to take a deep breath and embrace the challenge. They consciously apply techniques to improve their public speaking skills, such as practicing in front of a mirror, seeking feedback, and gradually exposing themselves to speaking opportunities.
As a result, the person not only delivers a successful impromptu presentation at work but also discovers a newfound confidence in their ability to communicate effectively. Challenging the limiting belief becomes a catalyst for personal growth, opening doors to opportunities they once avoided.
What’s most important is to start saying "No" to limiting beliefs. You don’t have to believe all your thoughts. Ask yourself what evidence exists that supports or contradicts the belief. For example, when you identify a limiting belief, ask yourself “Is this belief based on facts or assumptions?” and “Have I tested or challenged this belief in the past?” Often, you'll find that there is little or no evidence to support these beliefs, and they are based on unfounded assumptions.
It also helps to get outside your comfort zones. Challenge yourself to take on new opportunities, even if they feel uncomfortable or even scary at first. Each time you do, you expand your capabilities and break down limiting beliefs
